Cashmere is a small full service town in the heart of the Wenatchee valley, home of the famous aplets and cotlets candy factory, a pioneer museum, and a main street that still serves the orchard country around it. It sits where US 2 and US 97 briefly run together, so Stevens Pass traffic shares the road here with the Blewett Pass flow from Ellensburg, and the mix gives Cashmere more services than a town its size would usually hold.
The US 2 and US 97 junction at Cashmere is the east side decision point: north and east to Wenatchee, south over Blewett Pass to I-90. When Stevens Pass closes and Blewett stays open, this junction is where the detour math happens, and when both passes go, it is where the valley waits. Valley fog, orchard traffic, and a busy at grade railroad crossing pattern round out the local hazards.
